Lately I've been experiencing the same issue with design advice-seekers: They are desperate for color in their grey, monochromatic home, but after trial and error of bringing in unexpected pops of color in their rooms, they end up deciding that the colorful home isn't for them. When I decided on a design scheme for my bedroom in Williamsburg, I wanted to be strict with myself about keeping everything white and contemporary. It's a rental apartment and I want to be able to move items in and out as I begin collecting or trading up, and a completely white look would make this easy. I've already stepped away from the plan by bringing in some navy velvet drapes, but now I'm craving some pattern and color but I really don't want to make the small room look busy. I figured the best option would be to get a quilt or coverlet in a fun print and color that can be left in plain sight, or covered by my white duvet. Mexican coverlets had their moment a few years ago but I would love to bring in a touch of organic brightness to my room!
My favorite colors are from Laviva Home but their are pricey - $345. Anyone going to Mexico sometime soon?
And here's your budget-y way of incorporating the look. Urban Outfitter's Batik Bird rug 5x7 for $89.00.
